The Legacy Reimagined: Virgil Abloh Archive x Air Jordan 1 High "Alaska"

The sneaker world is currently witnessing a historic shift. For years, the 2018 Europe-exclusive Off-White™ Air Jordan 1 was the "one that got away" for many collectors. Now, under the newly established Virgil Abloh Archive (V.A.A.), that legendary silhouette returns as the "Alaska."
This isn't just a re-release; it’s the first major step in preserving Virgil’s 10-year design plan, separate from the Off-White brand itself.

The Evolution: From "Euro" to "Alaska"
While it mirrors the pristine white-on-white aesthetic of the original 2018 pair, the "Alaska" introduces a pivotal change. Look closely at the medial (inner) side of the shoe: the classic Off-White™ branding has been replaced with "V.A.A. for NIKE."
This signifies the transition of Virgil's legacy into the hands of the Virgil Abloh Archive, a creative estate led by Shannon Abloh. The nickname "Alaska" itself is a double nod—first to the snowy, minimalist palette, and second to "Alaska Alaska," the creative studio Virgil founded in 2017.

Unique Design Details
The "Alaska" remains a masterclass in Virgil’s "3% Rule"—the idea that you only need to change a classic by 3% to make it something entirely new.
-
Deconstructed Form: Exposed foam, zig-zag stitching, and the "floating" Swoosh.
-
The "V.A.A." Identity: Beyond the medial text, the signature zip-tie and packaging now carry the Archive’s logo.
-
"Modernism Is Not New": Each pair comes in a specialized side-opening box with circular cutouts (reminiscent of the "Lot 50" Dunks) and includes a sketch booklet titled Modernism Is Not New, featuring original notes from Virgil’s design process.
