The Jordan brand's story dates back to the 1980s. In 1984, Michael Jordan signed a sponsorship deal with Nike through his agent David Falkes. It was Falkes who negotiated the terms of the contract with Nike, allowing his protege to have a successful partnership. In addition to financial benefits, Mr. Jordan was promised a signature shoe. Renowned designer Peter Moore was tasked with creating the first sneaker, known as the Air Jordan 1 High. This shoe not only skyrocketed Nike's popularity, but also elevated Jordan himself. The second pair, the Air Jordan 2, did not achieve the same success. MJ was disappointed and soon Peter Moore parted ways with Nike. However, the arrival of designer Tinker Hatfield changed everything. His Air Jordan 3 and apparel collection were widely embraced. Jordan eventually became a distinct brand from Nike in 1997.
