Michael Jordan, the iconic basketball player, is also the mastermind behind Nike's Jordan subsidiary. Back in 1984, Mr. Jordan signed a sponsorship deal with Nike. As part of the agreement, the swoosh brand was tasked with creating a signature shoe for the Brooklyn native. The first Air Jordan 1 High sneaker was a massive hit, but the second one didn't quite garner the same level of popularity. Around the same time, Peter Moore left Nike and MJ considered following suit. However, the arrival of designer Tinker Hatfield turned things around for the partnership. His Air Jordan 3 sneaker and the Jordan tracksuit collection became instant favorites. By 1997, the items in the lineup were so popular that Jordan evolved into a standalone brand separate from Nike.
